What an amazing couple of days we have had. First of all the Laing Art Gallery Learning Team visited 9G in school to tell them about the Lindisfarne Gospels. They learned how the artwork tells the stories of Christianity, and how the paints used were derived from natural materials such as copper, oak galls and we even saw some real gold. Pupils explored line and shape to decorate illuminated letters. The following day we visited the Great North Museum where we saw Anglo-Saxon Artefacts and learnt about the animals depicted in the gospels. We also got to see the ancient manuscripts themselves (which are over 1300 years old !) at the The Laing Art Gallery alongside more modern artwork which linked to spirituality, which everybody found fascinating. We ended our day with a quick trip to Newcastle City Library where we saw a range of old books and stories dating back as far as the 1400’s. 9G pupils made us all so proud with their excellent behaviour and engagement in all the venues.
