Our Art curriculum is built around the formal elements of Art, which are the foundation of all Art and Design. The curriculum is designed to allow our pupils understanding and knowledge to grow year on year in a progressive manner, with opportunities to revisit and recap the elements through new topics each year, thus strengthening their knowledge as well as developing it. Pupils are inspired by a wide range of project topics, artists and designers from a variety of cultures and eras. Our school ethos underpins our learning in Art and is evident in all we do; Aspire, Believe, Achieve. We promote independent thinking in our pupils, making creative choices and developing their own ideas and work in order to become artists themselves. Empowering pupils with the knowledge and skills to be able to express themselves and to achieve personal outcomes. Pupils can access a variety of Art and Design qualifications in KS4; Arts Award, Entry Level and GCSE providing a pathway to pursue post 16 Art and Design.
Our DT curriculum runs as a carousel in KS1,2 and 3, where pupils experience creating, making and evaluating products in Food Technology, Resistant Materials and Textiles over the course of the year. Pupils access practical learning of how ingredients and materials can be used to create, design and make a functioning product. In Resistant Materials pupils learn about materials and their properties, mechanisms, structures, electronics and engineering from past to present day. Pupils use LEGO Education kits from KS1 through to KS3 as a tool to promote learning in an accessible and success orientated manner. This also enables our pupils to develop their fine motor skills, ability to follow instructions and communication skills when working in a group. In textiles pupils learn what textiles are from fibre through to fabric and a variety of specialist techniques to create decorative, home base and fashion products. Pupils can access a variety of Design Technology qualifications in KS4; ASDAN Awards and Entry Level providing a pathway to pursue post 16 Art and Design.
