Community Morning

Good Afternoon everyone,

Today we held a community morning in the school garden and it was a huge success. We showed parents, carers, Stoneleigh residents and friends within the community the updates of the Mural which Lewis and Jordan have been working hard on all week.
We opened up the Garden and the PTA had created a lovely space with refreshments and well welcomed drinks on a hot Friday. An excellent Tombola (which was VERY popular) organising Sam from Prime Pizzas to come and create some outstanding pies (Pizzas). Mr Bolton and 10B pupils from making French Onion Soup with the produce coming from the school garden. We also had gift bags of local organic vegetables that the pupils have grown and harvested for guests to take.

Once again, I would personally like to thank everyone for making this morning a huge success and a lovely atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Maple goes to Beamish

This term Maple class have been looking at different types of transport. We were so excited when it was announced that we were going to Beamish,

Maple class looked at all of the different transports that we seen.

The children loved riding on the trams and the busses waving to passerbys

We loved looking at how different the transport is compared to now.

When we were walking around we also looked at the houses. The children were shocked at how small the houses were and that the floor had no carpets,

We even took a trip to the school. There were different entrances for boys and girls and the children were so shocked hat there wasn’t any toys!!

We then went into the shops, the meat was hanging from the ceiling and the shoes were soooo tiny. We didn’t think we would be able to fit into the shoes now,

We had the best day and loved going on the trip. It was so interesting but I know the children’s favourite was riding on the trams.

WAGAMAMA experience (Primary year 6)

What an amazing experience our lovely year 6 children had to celebrate their end of year achievements with a visit to Wagamama, which is a Japanese style restaurant. The manager of the restaurant was called James and he went through all the safety aspects of our visit to ensure our safety whilst onsite and in the Metro Centre with two lovely assistants. The children all received their very own chef hat and apron to decorate and wear. A range of food that the Japanese culture use in their menu were there for the children to choose to have cooked for a choice of their meal at the end of the visit. James and his assistant were very accommodating to ensure any dietary and sensory needs were met. Everyone really enjoyed the visit and the food very much, as you can see we have lots of full and happy children and staff. All the children adhered to personal and road safety whilst out on the school visit and we are really proud of them. Another fantastic day at Croft.

End of year Cinema celebrations (Year 6 Primary)

On Monday morning our lovely year 6 pupils were invited to an exclusive cinema viewing of The Minions “Return of Gru” to celebrate their end of year achievements. Everyone listened and followed safety instructions when travelling on the mini bus and adhered to personal safety when in the Metro Centre, walking up to the ODEON. Croft staff want to say a great big thankyou to all the staff in the Metro Centre ODEON of how helpful and kind they were. They gave each child a goodie box with popcorn, water, fruit bar and chocolate buttons in and ensured the viewing was Autism friendly, to match the needs of some of our young pupils who are sensitive to sound and lighting. Everyone had an amazing morning.

Cookery during Enrichment ( Article 28 &24)

During Cookery in Enrichment on Friday afternoon the pupils followed a set of visual instructions to support them to collect all the ingredients and utensils they needed to make a cream of vegetable soup and chocolate chip cookies. The pupils adhered to health and hygiene in the kitchen and health and safety in the kitchen. Everyone demonstrated the safety of washing hands first and collecting PPE to protect their clothing. Following a group discussion they identified the correct chopping board to use for the vegetables. Throughout the lesson their was times when the pupils had to think and problem solve to increase their independence and learn life skills such as, how much water to boil the vegetables in and how big or small shall I chop the vegetables? Two of the group worked with Miss Taylor to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies. At the end of the lesson Mrs Devlin went round the group and asked each pupil to identify a skill they have learnt and how it made them feel about themselves. Finley responded ” I feel great, I can make a soup from scratch”! Well done everyone the soup tasted absolutely amazing.

Pizza Crofteria!

Beech class visited the outdoor educational to enjoy some amazing stone baked pizzas, baked in our new pizza oven. Mr Harrison and his gang have done an awesome job building it. We were able to add some of our own home-grown basil or parsley, which we all agreed made it even richer and nicer!

FC Crofty Crew Training

In preparation for the football match against the Oaks on Monday night, FC Crofty Crew had their first training session last night. Mr Pearson put the staff through their paces with an outdoor gym session, then down to business.

Team spirt in the camp is high after Mr Harrison, Mr Jacques, Mr Cameron, Mr Heywood, Mr Sotheran and Mr Davis were cheered on by Miss Veevers and Mrs Wood.

We’re sure the students will be backing their teachers all the way!

Green fingers in Beech

The first of our onion crop has been used to make our cheese and onion quiche by the kitchen cook for school dinners.

It went down well with the students – just ask them!

Transport

In Maple this term we have been looking at loads of different transports.

We have been comparing old transport and new transport to see the differences and how much they have changed.

We then looked a the old sculptures of the vehicles we have in our class and had a Art lesson.

We looked and drew either a train and car then used crayons to colour these images in.

Our Maple children were brilliant at tracing their own vehicles.

We are super excited for our Beamish trip on Monday.

Community Mural

Good Afternoon Everyone

We have had the idea of creating a living history wall on the side of the school building and we are hoping that you will be able to help us. We have a local artist called Lewis from Durham Spray Paints who is coming into school to create the mural from photographs, pictures, living memories, postcards, and historical memorabilia and we need more. If anyone would be willing to come into school on Monday 3rd July between 10 and 12 and talk to the pupils about the local area as well as bring any old photographs or other information about the local community we would really appreciate it. On Friday 8th July we will have the unveiling of the mural so we would love people to come along and the see the work that has been created and to partake in some refreshments that have been grown in the Community Garden and prepared by our pupils. This will take place between 10 and 12 so please come along to both events and support the creation of this fantastic Community Project.
