Vocational Studies Fishing Trip
As part of the Vocational studies qualification, some of our year 11s had to demonstrate their new skills of being able to assemble fishing equipment safely, cast correctly & land a fish.
This was our second visit to Derwent Reservoir and just like last week, we all had a reel-y good time.
All of the pupils should be extremely proud of themselves for how quickly they learnt and demonstrated their new skills.
This week was very different to last week as the pupils managed to catch 6 fish and successfully land 4. They all rallied round to support each other once the fish was on the line, to make sure the fish was landed and unhooked from the line correctly. The fish that they caught were Rainbow Trout and some of the pupils even took them home with them.
Our last fishing trip with these pupils has definitely been a one to remember.
Always remember “Any fin is possible, be strong and don’t trout yourself!”
Beech visit Tesco 16.06.2022
Beech class visited Tesco as part of some amazing maths work to calculate quantities needed to make cupcakes. The children walked all the way there on a very hot morning, showing brilliant road safety. Once inside Tesco, they worked as a team to use the shopping list and to use the self checkout at the end.
Pizza Oven in the making.
The pupils have been working extremely hard designing and creating a pizza oven this term for the whole school to use, the vision being to start a small enterprise in the vocational department. Pupils have used their knowledge and applied their new skills acquired from their bricklaying course and applying them into constructing and making a pizza oven. Orders will take place soon. Watch out Dominos.
We may hold a competition for the best pizzeria name. My favourites thus far are:
We Knead Pizza / Bread and Cheese / Pizzeria Harradise.
Reflection patterns.
Year 10 art students used online software ‘Photopea’ to create reflection patterns as a response to the famous artist and pattern designer William Morris. Each pattern is based on a natural image, see if you can spot the animal, bird or plant. They are absolutely amazing!
Year 11 Leaver’s Trip to the beach
Year 11 had a fantastic day at the beach for their leaver’s trip! We explored the arcade and one student was very happy with their Baby Yoda stuffed toy! We enjoyed fish and chips in the park, played football and had ice creams/slushes. Year 11 were a credit to our school today and we are all so proud of you. So glad you all had such a great day 🌟
Rowan calling Jack, Rowan Calling Jack, Come in Jack…
Today the Children in Rowan class made a very special phone call to a land far far away. They were very lucky to be able to speak to Jack from Jack in the Beanstalk. Jack very kindly slotted us into his busy schedule and spent time answering our questions about the Giant he encountered at the top of the Beanstalk. From his responses we hope to be ale to write a detailed description of her.
Land Art
7V have been learning about different types of sculpture including abstract, figurative, relief, kinetic and today land art. They learned about the artist Andy Goldsworthy and created their own circular responses using found materials in our outdoor area. It was fantastic to see their designs evolving and growing as they made their own creative decisions about materials and arrangement.
Friday enrichment
I
Class 9R, enjoyed learning some new life skills during Friday enrichment. We have been learning how to fold clothes properly and sort them into whites, darks and colours. We have learned how to work the washing machine and where to put the washing powder and fabric softener ready for a 40 degrees wash. Great work 9R, we are sure your grown ups will be happy that you will now be able to help them at home!
THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER!!
Our year 6 have finally got their leavers hoodies!! We couldn’t wait to try them on!!
How grown up do we all look? We can’t wait to start our next chapter in Secondary in September.
