Last week secondary pupil voice students met with professionals to become mental health champions to support peers surrounding social and emotional problems. Students identified barriers to learning and happiness and discussed solutions and strategies to combat negative emotions. Fantastic work.
Yesterday the department of work and pensions came in to deliver a work shop and presentation to some year 10s around traineeships, apprenticeships and T Levels. Fantastic discussion and participation around higher education. Well done.
Hazel class today continued learning about the human body, focusing on their senses.
Pupils had to make predictions about what they could smell in each cup. They also had to smell the playdough and guess the scent.
Pupils fell into the trap of using their sense of sight to make predictions instead of smell. Pupils predicted the blue playdough smelt of blue berries and the black smelt of plum or black berries when they actually smelt of mint and orange. When they closed their eyes and made the prediction they got it right.
Some pupils were even brave and tried the different fruit and vegetables at the end.
Well done Hazel class, great work!
Well done Hazel Class for raising an amazing £50 for the Red Cross Ukraine appeal 🇺🇦
Primary years 5 & 6 pupils had a very special visitor today from Johnathan who is part of the Mental Health Awareness Team One Goal. Jonathan encouraged the pupils to think about why it is important to have some strategies in place to support them with their mental health and how to identify their super mental health powers such as Thinking, Moving, Relaxing, Observing, Playing and Being Kind. The pupils participated in some fun activities to help them be more Healthy, Happy and Inspired. At the end the pupils graduated as a mental health Champions. One pupil said “It was good and made me feel Happy and helpful to my friends”.
Today in Hazel class we continued our work on rhyming.
Rhyming can be a little bit tricky but today Hazel class worked really hard and could match rhyming words and write some of their own.
Great work!
This week Hazel class started learning about the human body.
As a baseline we labelled the body parts of Miss Wilson and Miss Brannan.
Pupils labelled internal and external body parts, we then discussed our answers as a group.
Next week we are going to learn about the role of certain body parts.
Hazel class introduced the new topic last week ‘Exploring our World’.
This term we will be exploring the natural world around us, focusing on Animals including Humans so we all dressed up as different animals.
We spoke about the different types of animals, created animal pictures, danced like animals and researched facts about our chosen animal.
Well done Hazel class, we all had a great day!
