Maple 22/06/2023
In Maple we have been super busy so this post will be showing parents what we have been up to recently.
Science:
In Science we have been learning about different parts of the body. A small group worked with Miss Garrity, Miss Birbeck and Miss Franklin. We drew around a child and then stuck labels of body parts onto the body we have drawn.
Once we put our labels on we have decorated our person with tissue paper and they have been put up in call on display.
In science we have also been learning about our different senses. We set out loads of activities to which the children then completed with their eyes open and closed and then we talked about the different senses that they have used.
Outside Time:
We have had some glorious sun across our Maple yard. The children have loved playing outside with water play, babies and the sandpit. We have been taking our bottles outside to keep nice and hydrated!
Our brilliant 9G Engineers.
Just wanted to post up a couple of photos of our brilliant young engineers in 9G. Two students both won awards last night in the tutor for excellent and creative designs in the young engineer competition. We are proud of you both!
If you were an engineer what would you do?
Good Evening Everyone
We’ve been to the University of Sunderland tonight to celebrate the successes of some of our amazing pupils. We entered a competition where pupils had to create a new invention to deal with some of the problems in the world today. After completing some amazing work to create their new inventions and competing with schools around the country with over 28’000 entries 3 of our pupils won through to the final of the competition and exhibition.
Huge congratulations to Sophie F in Year 7 and Josh in Year 9 who were in the highly commended category and to the overall winner Daniel in Year 9.
We are so proud of you all and well done to our inspirational young engineers
Facts about Maya people!
During our lesson for Topic we split into two groups and worked together looking at fact cards and writing down facts that we thought was most interesting. The children did great teamwork and identities facts that they all found interesting and different about Maya people.
Circuit fun!
Today for our practical in Science we split into groups of two. The children looked at creating a full circuit using a power supply, buzzer, wires and a light bulb. Then they looked at when circuits break and when they aren’t complete. They had to problem solve in identifying how to make a full circuit while working in teams.
Croft Shop
Today we practiced our money skills by creating our very own Croft Shop in Birch. The children had a handful of objects that were labelled with a price tag and they were given random amounts of money. The children came up and asked for the object that they wanted and had to give Mrs Dunn the correct change.
The children were super excited to give the correct amount to Mrs Dunn and to receive their object!
Expanded noun phrases
Today we recapped our knowledge of what a noun was. The children were asked what a noun was and all of them said a person, place or thing. The children were asked to pick an object and to tell staff what the noun was. We then looked at a PowerPoint to help explain what a expanded noun was. The children had to choose the adjectives to develop an extended noun.
The children were asked to identify what a noun was in each sentence, before selecting adjectives.
