Year 7 Science. Elements, compounds and mixtures
In P5 and P6 today we have been looking at elements, compounds and mixtures. Pupils have been describing what elements, compounds and mixtures look like and looking at examples.
Martin Luther King Jr Day
In memory of Martin Luther King Jr P3 read the story ‘Tusk Tusk’.
We discussed what we liked and disliked about the story.
Majority of the class liked when the grey peacekeeping elephants came out of the jungle and were friends and disliked when the black and white elephants were fighting. We looked at the elephants in the story and compared similarities and difference. The pupils noticed the only difference was the colour of their skin. As a class we spoke about whether that means they should not get on and be treat differently? Some pupils replied “No they are still the same.” “They both can live in the jungle.”
Article 2: All children have these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.
We then discussed what we could do as a class to be more like the grey elephants. Some of the ideas were;
“being kind”, “listening” and “sharing”.
P3 worked really hard all day to be like the grey peacekeeping elephants in the story.
They did this by taking turns and working together.
Sharing and listening to each other.
During our English lesson we spoke about hopes and dreams for the future. Pupils were given the sentence starter ‘I have a dream…’ and asked to finish the sentence with something they would like to be able to do by the end of the school year.
Happy Monday Everyone!
P3 Australian Bake Sale
P3 just want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who bought sweet treats from the bake sale on Friday.
We raised over £100 for an Australian bush fire charity.
The pupils in P3 are going to have a discussion about which charity they want to support, whether it be a charity to help the animals or firefighters or possibly both.
We will let you all know once the pupils have voted.
Finally a special Thank You to Mrs Convery and Mrs Laverick for all their hard work on Friday!
Bake Sale for Australia
P3 have been working hard this week learning about Australia. We spoke about the bush fires and the pupils wanted to do something to help.
We decided a bake sale would be the best way to raise money.
During Maths lessons P3 have been making some delicious treats, weighing the ingredients and following Mrs Convery’s recipes.
In English we created posters to put around school to tell everyone what time they could come and buy sweet treats and why we are raising money.
Have a lovely day everyone and see you tomorrow 1pm.
Don’t forget your pennies!
Getting moving in science
Today pupils in P5 analysed how the skeleton facilitates movement through sport and active play.
Pupil Voice Meeting
Today the Pupil Voice steering group met to discuss several matters students felt they wanted to improve: dinner time arrangements, Year 11 leavers celebration, pupil questionnaires, EHCP outcomes and reviews.
P3 Beamish Wild Adventures
P3 enjoyed a wet adventure to Beamish wild.
They went on a little walk to look for animals before enjoying the adventure park.
They practised moving in different ways and like different animals.
P3 worked together as a team, showing resilience when they found something difficult. Co-operation and thoughtfulness supporting each other when they found things tough.
They communicated with each other and staff when they needed help or encouragement.
As part of our art lesson we came back to class we looked at the photographs we had taken and discussed why some were blurred and some were not. Pupils decided it was because on some of the photographs they were “moving”.
One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure.
In the ‘upcycling’ enrichment group today we started sanding down an old piano and piano stool, where we found a secret compartment with old sheet music from around the 1930’s. We started and ended the session with some music played by Finley.W
