At Key Stage 3, students develop and increasingly sophisticated knowledge and depth of understanding of differing religious and non-religious worldviews. They will have the opportunity to connect the differing aspects of religion and concepts in order to describe the nature of religion and non-religious belief systems. The students will look at the impact religious and non-religious beliefs can have for individuals, local, national and global communities, including the impact beliefs and practices have on wider current and political affairs. This will include the study of some controversial questions and ideas surrounding religious and non-religious beliefs and practices.
At Key Stage 4, students consider different beliefs and attitudes to the issues studied, both religious and non-religious issues, in a contemporary British society. They should be aware that the religious tradition of Great Britain are, in the main, Christian, and that religious traditions in Great Britain are diverse. They include the following: Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, as well as other religious and non-religious beliefs such as atheism and humanism.
