Today P3 learnt about Remembrance Day.
Miss Robson put a picture on the whiteboard and asked “Who is this?”
P3 thought that the photograph was old and he looked like a soldier.
We then looked at artifacts belonging to the soldier to discover that his name was Ernest Johnson Glaholm or “Uncle Ernie” to Miss Robson.
We also discovered that he was a Sergeant and got the Military Medal for bravery and was in the London Gazette.
We worked out that he was 24 years old when he joined the army and served for 8 years.
We looked at Sgt. Ernest Johnson Glaholm’s Soldier’s book and were able to gather additional information about him, such as who his family were and where he served.
We also spoke about the poppy and why it is important. We looked at the story ‘Poppy Field’ by Michael Morpurgo and created poppy field pictures.
On Friday we are going to create some poems, keep a look out for them.
Just a little reminder that poppies are on sale in school.
Lest we forget.
